June 2 - On this day in geek history in 1883 the world’s first elevated electric railway made its first trial run. The railway was located in Chicago Illinois and was developed by Thomas Edison and Stephen D. Field. The two incorporated the Electric Railway Company in 1883 and began working on the technology. They would debut the new technology at the Chicago Railway Exposition that same year.
The technology was shown at that years Chicago Railway Exposition is said to be a precursor for the ‘L’ system (pictured above) that currently runs in the City.
